Scaring and daring seemed the way of things in those days. Younger children were fair game for the older lads on our streets. Clive and me were good friends, we had started primary school together two years previously. Clive had an older brother who never hung around with us. Taws and Bottlewashers

I found a marble today, let me know if you lost yours we can have a game for it. When I was a boy we called the small one’s taws, the large one’s bottle washers. What was yours? It was just lying by the roadside with bags of rubbish. Why would you throw it out? It took me back fifty years to a carefree childhood.
