Did They Just Say My Name?

Sit quietly in a park, a school, a town centre. Well almost anywhere in truth and a rat or two or will not be far away. Night or day they are always there skulking and scurrying. I was among the haters for most of my life. The only good rat being a dead one as far as I was concerned. Poison, trapping, shooting, setting dogs on them. It’s all acceptable they are of course vermin a creature to be destroyed. We try tp wipe them from the face of the earth. The trouble is I think they know. They sense our…

Tuesday Night

I’d been following the lumbering white Mercedes for a few miles heading into the city. Late evening on a Tuesday night and the roads were quiet. I suppose mainly people like myself going to or coming from work. The only thing I had noticed different about it was its speed. It was slow, the driver seemed uncertain of the way. The other thing, it was from the French Department 2A. I decided to overtake, it overtook me straight back. There was a young man driving. His car was left hand drive, mine right. We were just a few feet away from each other. He was in his early…

Shackled

The old doors hadn’t been opened in hundreds of years, today though was time. The great and the good of the district had gathered to see events unfold. A small crowd stood quietly outside this ancient abbey. Two men dressed in black stepped up, two men with keys. Their order had been protectors of the keys and the legend for twelve generations. Protectors until today a day predicted long ago. The day of a rare astronomical event. The spring equinox and a solar eclipse, a unique event. The earth was about to go dark indicating the time had come to unlock the past. Long…

I Blame Alfred Hitchcock

I remember as a child watching ‘The Birds’ by Alfred Hitchcock on television. It was one of the scariest movies I had seen in my life up to that point. Times were different back then, a small black and white television in the living room with all the family huddled around it. Watching  a movie even at home was a big event, a family event. Happy days all this reminiscing is no good, I have to sleep things have been so hectic and I’m up early. I need to clear my mind, relax forget all about old American movies. The noise is the…

Always Wash The Dishes

No one warned them about the ants. Spain was safe, no wars, nice climate, a good health system. What could go wrong? They knew not to drink the water but no one said anything about bloody ants? Club San Juan and Apartments was perched on a cliff by a beautiful sandy beach and packed with tourists from all over Europe enjoying the sun. Bob and Carol had been looking forward to their trip for months. They had such a good time the first night that they went to bed without even washing their dinner plates. Mussels, fries and a few glasses…
